LET’S MEET OUR GUEST – Jake Putan
Jake Putan, an artist at heart, merged his creativity with a career in hair and began running education workshops for various brands around Australia. As time went on, he noticed himself being drawn closer and closer to sharing the things that felt more authentic to his heart than simply selling tools, and this brought his vision of what he wanted to bring to the world. Connecting to his own personal gifts, he now shares with others how to stand out from the crowd, do the unconventional, and spread their unique message. Jake Putan brings innovation, impact and ethical values to reimagine the future of business, leadership and legacy.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Jake in the same salon team several years ago, and more recently, we shared the same stage as collaborative educators at The Sydney Hair Festival in the Open Mic show.
Integrating breathwork into a busy schedule
Breathwork, also known as conscious breathing, has roots in several indigenous cultures and is a powerful tool for stress relief. But what exactly is stress, and how can breathwork help alleviate it?
In the fast-paced world of hairdressers, barbers, and salon owners, the constant influx of messages and clients demanding instant replies can take a toll on mental and physical well-being. Given the hectic schedules and physical demands of working in a salon or barbershop, incorporating simple breathwork techniques into your daily routine can make a world of difference.
Jake suggests starting with the basics: focus on good posture and breathe through your nose. He notes that when you do this, you'll feel a shift—your mind quiets, and clarity follows.
For those new to breathwork, begin with shorter practices, like 20 breaths at a rhythm of 2 seconds in and 2 seconds out. However, it's important to approach breathwork with care. While it can be incredibly beneficial, longer sessions (anything over 10 breaths) can bring up deep emotions and may not be suitable for those with extreme anxiety or certain heart conditions.
The future of wellness in the hair industry aligns with a vision Jake had a couple of years ago: starting each day with team huddles that incorporate breathwork.
We’ve had a deep and engaging conversation with Jake Putan, providing valuable insights for hairdressers, barbers, and salon owners about integrating breathwork into their busy, creative, and often stressful lives.
