Mr. D is the owner of Delilah Hair Studio, established in 2007, and a renowned dry-cutting and curl specialist with 30 years of experience. He is also a trusted industry educator and the product developer behind Delilah Curl Creams and Sprays. As an ambassador of Hair-3Rs, a program that helps salon professionals recognise and respond to signs of family violence, Mr. D donates $1 from each cream sold to support this cause.

One of the key challenges for hairdressers over 40 is staying motivated and inspired. Mr. D and I discuss how diversifying within the industry can help maintain passion for the craft. He emphasises the importance of constantly seeking new opportunities, whether it's creating products, specialising in niche areas, or engaging with clients in innovative ways. His advice? “Don't be afraid to do more. Diversifying is a good thing.”
Being a hairdresser is a demanding and physically intense job, and as the years go by, many older stylists may feel the pressure of staying relevant and up-to-date with the latest techniques. However, it doesn’t have to be that way.
One of the key challenges for hairdressers over 40 is staying motivated and inspired, whilst releasing the fear of bring irrelevant or out of touch.
Hair education has changed over the years. If you've been hairdressing for 20 or more years, foundational skills like curly hair, hair-painting for redheads, and dry cutting were not widely taught when we started. Social Media has also changed how we do business and attract clients.
I love the our guest interviewed in this episode ‘Mr D' slid into my DMs to suggest we discuss being a hairdresser over 40 because we're both in our forties and loving it!
