EPISODE 99
Where has my inner Artist gone and how do I find it again?
What we'll be talking about
In this episode, we’re talking about continuing education and why you should remain open to new ideas for success in business and for your inner artist to thrive.
Continuing education has become an essential ingredient in hairdressing success. I love attending educational workshops! I always have! I believe the core reason I am still in hairdressing for almost 30 years is that I have continued to attend educational events within the hairdresser industry and outside of our industry to learn new business techniques, plus I love to attend creative workshops that fuel my creativity and not necessarily linked to anything work-related. I continue to invest my time, my finances and my enthusiasm into continued education for my own personal growth and professional development.

MAKE TIME FOR EDUCATION THAT SPARKS JOY
I want to invite you to look at education as a way to invite creativity back into your salon practice. When was the last time you spent a day painting hair swatches and testing out new techniques?
I have just ordered a new book of swatches to prepare for upcoming workshops and also because the colour brand I know and love has released a few new shades & I have not made the time yet to play with them on swatches. I have booked a 3-hour appointment with myself this week to paint and play.
I will use my fabulous Colour Mapping book and pivot point swatches to create new recipes and release my inner colour geek. I have not done this for at least 12 months & it’s a long-overdue art session that I need to prioritise for my professional growth. I would love to encourage you to do the same!
I want to ask you when was the last time you attended in-person education?
Are there events happening near you again? There has been a couple of years due to covid without much happening, but I can see now across the world some of the biggest hair shows and brand events are reopening again and that’s super exciting!! It is only 6 months away until we are in 2023 and that could be your most dynamic creative year yet if you set the wheels in motion now.
COLOUR & SOCIAL MEDIA EDUCATION TO SCALE YOUR SALON BIZ
Keep an eye out for my creative content on Instagram. I am trying to learn the art of making reels at the moment and have been training with Nicole Healy of social salon school in her membership and also invested in some 1:1 coaching sessions.
I would love your feedback and support with this to help me get braver and more confident that I am sharing things that are helpful, educational and fun! So please let me know if you have any special requests in formulas and leave questions in the comments under my reels on Instagram @colourkristina
PRO TIPS FOR FUELLING YOUR INNER ARTIST:
- Look at attending education as a way to invite creativity back into your salon practice
- Book time into your calendar every 3 months to paint and explore your colour range
- Remaining open to new ideas creates space for you to grow, but scrolling through social media aimlessly can lead to burnout and overwhelm
- start researching educators online and on Instagram and learn tips and tricks from short videos & take the next step to put new skills into practice
- Book education with someone that inspires you
- Set goals for yourself that extend your artistry (hint: now is a good time to start planning your 2023 budget and calendar to accommodate a new online course or mentor program)
