How To (Do) Silent Appointments & Chat or Chill Client Experiences
with Tara Abramowicz

What we'll be talking about
Wondering if silent appointments could work in your salon? In this episode, we answer that question.
Silent salon appointments are a hot topic in the hair and beauty industry with many salons jumping on this trend and promoting it across their website, online booking programs and social media. When I was preparing for this episode I just googled the words silent salon hair appointments and there were millions of articles available to read on sources ranging from consumer magazines to salon blogs to industry media and so much more.
What began as a service for neuro-diverse clients, has rapidly grown to be desirable for many clients seeking a relaxing experience at a time when the world is a very noisy space.

LET’S MEET OUR GUEST – Tara Abramowicz
Tara is a Global Educator and stage artist for Redken, a salon suite renter and haircolourist- but that’s not all. She has invented a new salon concept: The Client Experience Card. Inspired by the call for “Silent Appointments” and her own personal journey in discovering she is autistic- Tara created a simple, yet elegant card that reads “Chat” on one side and “Chill” on the other. This card can be utilized to create more inclusivity behind the chair as well as spread the message: Everyone deserves the salon experience they want.
CHAT OR CHILL CLIENT EXPERIENCES
Consumers and clients are seeking silent appointment services and Hairdressers are keen to offer them and many salon software companies now have the option to pre-book a silent appointment. But what exactly is a silent appointment versus a chat or chill client experience? And how can we easily manage this within a busy salon environment?
Key points discussed in our podcast:
- Chat or Chill Cards help to stop chatter
- We discuss the key differences between Silent Appointments and Chat or Chill Salon experiences
- Hairdressers might assume that some people might not want to talk and they actually do
- Stylists equally might assume some clients want to chat when they need a silent or chill experience because it’s impossible to completely know what a client wants by assuming we can read their body language
- Tara shares some examples of when clients might choose either option, and sometimes both option within the same appointment
- ‘Chat or Chill’ cards helps the hairdresser to avoid mistakes and misunderstanding when assuming what your client wants
