Dom will need no introduction if you already are a podcast loving hairdresser. Currently celebrating over 30+ years in hairdressing,  he is the owner of Dominic Lehane Salon, and founder of the leading online community and live events platform for hairdressers, Hair Club Live. And as a fourth generation hairdresser it would be fair to say that hairdressing runs through his veins. Dom is also the host of the world renowned Podcast How to Cut it in Hairdressing that is loved by all levels of hairdressers across the globe.

So of course, I had to reach out and invite him to speak with me on my podcast.  I am so excited to share our conversation with you.

We'll be talking about podcasting and how it can scale and grow your career whether you are a producer or educator or content creator looking for a new platform to share on. And we also spoke about how listening to podcasts can elevate your career to the next level of hairdressing knowledge.

Key themes we discuss in this episode of the Colour Kristina Talks Podcast are;

  • Know your WHY and get engaged in the industry! If there's just one thing that you takeaway from our chat it needs to be this hot tip to know how to stay inspired and motivated.
  • Get geeky with hairdressing. Get geeky with hair. This means you are going to be obsessed and keep training and researching. Keep working towards goals.
  • People are seeking authenticity – this is why it's so important to know your why (your reason for being a hairdresser)
  • We chat about why it's integral to know your niche clientele and speak to them in all your service offerings and marketing
  • We chat about knowing your niche – what is your brand? What is your signature? What are your unique offerings as a hairdresser and as a hair salon to attract your dream clientele?

the birth of how to cut it and the origins of why it all began

How To Cut It is a resource run by Dom Lehane, and is dedicated to giving hairdressers and barbers of all levels the insights, inspirations and information to the many exciting pathways and opportunities available to you – helping you to a successful and fulfilling career in the hairdressing and barbering industry.

In a era long before Google and social media there was not a lot of advice out there that purely focused on career opportunities in the hairdressing and barbering industry outside that of the big cities. Feeling lost and in the wilderness Dom needed to know more on the opportunities and pathways that were out there. He wanted career advice that related to his personal goals. He craved to hear the stories from his hairdressing icons on how they got to where they did. Quite simply, he needed a one-stop resource guide to help direct him and his fledgling hairdressing career, keeping him both motivated and ambitious enough to stay in hairdressing…

Dom's newest project is Hair Show TV, which is a weekly live streaming tV for hairdressers. Lots of hair stuff. Small bite sized segments. It is a new format for hair education and it's been a big journey. Make sure you check this out!
