The problem with learning colour theory is not that it’s complicated, because it’s not! But there’s a lot of information out there from Colour Theorists and product companies that can make it difficult to know if you’re being sold something or perhaps being swayed to buy their product to ensure a successful salon colour result. Don’t get me wrong! I love reading colour theory books and listening to colour geeks chat about hair colour, but I also sometimes feel overwhelmed by choices & I know you feel the same. I receive so many messages about colour theory from confused people , so my mission is to make colour theory approachable in this podcast with my goal for you to know the WHY behind colour theory and product selection.

This is an advanced concept with an easy to understand the theory behind it, so regardless of your level of experience I believe this knowledge is integral to help you become a Hair Painter that slays and it’s an approach that you need when you have a client sitting in your chair with damaged or sensitive hair.

for the love of colour
When you are filling hair to go darker there’s a general assumption that you should aim for 1 level lighter than your desired end result. That is the same with semis, demis and sometimes with direct dyes.
The beauty of using direct dyes is you are more likely to be able to pump up the intensity of tone and the saturation of colour and hue. Ahhhhhhmazing for hair that needs dimension! You must consider the levels of natural depths and underlying pigment, but also feel brave to pump in extra yellow and gold with creative filling.
