What I'll be talking about

In this episode, we’re talking about 5 must-know colour correction techniques for haircolour success and why you need to be grounded in every one of them to be a confident hairdresser working behind the salon chair.
There are 3 different areas of haircolour services offered in every salon business & it’s important to have a strong understanding of all three to be a confident salon professional. The problem is with some salons the training might be lacking in one or more of these areas & it could potentially cause issues for you whilst working on clients that are seeking a well-rounded and experienced hair colourist.

LET’S REMOVE YOUR FEAR OF COLOUR CORRECTIONS

I love colour corrections! I know that many hairdressers find the dreaded c word frightening, but lets face it! Almost every new client is some kind of transformation or correction of some kind. Perhaps you could change the word from correction to transformation to remove your fear!

Would you love to know what colour to mix in the salon for Copper, Auburn & Strawberry Blonde Hair colour requests? My FREE guide will help you.

There are 5 fundamental colour correction techniques that every colourist must know:

  1. Colour Stripper
  2. Blonde to Brown
  3. Blonde to Red
  4. Black to Red
  5. Highlights and Lowlights

PRO TIPS FOR COLOUR CORRECTIONS:

  • If you are only going one shade darker no filling is required
  • If you are going 3-4 levels darke  you need to fill 2-3 shades darker
  • Red is not the best colour choice for filling
  • Not all colour strippers are created equal (beware of products containing peroxide or developer because they will lighten the natural hair)
  • Take a blonde to an 8 level copper-gold when changing from Blonde to Red for the first time to introduce them to a darker warmer tone with less commitment than Copper
  • When lifting from black to red always aim to lift 1 level higher or lighter than your desired shade because this gives you the best base to deposit your chosen red back on, for example,  lift to a 6 if seeking a 5 result with red reflect
