Special Occasion Haircolour + Styling
with Lorna Evans
What we'll be talking about
In this episode, we’re talking about special occasion hair colour and styling and why you need a different approach to classic colours and blow-dry techniques.
Weddings, debutantes, high school formals, birthday parties, engagements, mardi gras parades, dance competitions or just a fun night out could all be considered as a special occasion. Hairstyling techniques for stage shows, dance performances, theatre and weddings all need to have a stronger hold than a classic blow-dry because the person wearing it wants it to last for many hours and to look fabulous from all angles when filmed or photographed.
Special occasion haircolour is not something that we have discussed yet on the Colour Kristina Talks podcast because covid-19 outbreaks have been putting a stop to many of our celebrations, but I felt it was time to start looking forward to a brighter future where we need to look good for more than just a zoom call.
I reached out to one of the best in the biz to talk about the special skills you’ll need to consider before your next special occasion hair booking. We’ll be talking about more than just the hair. This episode will help you know how to market yourself to attract this type of client with strategies to keep them as long-term loyal customers and happy clients.
We are talking with Lorna Evans, who is a significant name within the Australia and International Hair Industry.

special occasion colour + Styling strategies
It is so important for Hairdressers to consider colour placement around the hairline and anywhere the hair might part or separate. Nobody wants obvious stripes, blobs, or harsh lines on areas of focus with special emphasis on softer techniques needed for special occasion colouring.
Lorna's least liked hairline is a chunky hairline for bridal. In this podcast, we discuss pro tips to make it seamless and more classical for bridal hair or any client that likes to style their hair away from their face. Her mission is to help stylists with time-saving techniques and to debunk the myth that working with long hair is too hard and takes too long with her online education and in-person events.
Vertical foil placement or freehand painting application is highly recommended to create high impact colour without noticeable stripes or texture that is perfect for any special occasion.
