Welcome to Episode 2  of the Colour Kristina Talks Podcast.

I am very excited to be chatting today with the amazing Melbourne Hair Blogger and creator of Social Salon School Nicole Healey.

We discuss the importance of social media and the top reasons for being on Instagram to attract your dream clientele. It’s your landing page and online shopfront which can be utilized to attract them.”

Nicole suggests to keep up-to-date and do your own testing because what works for you might not work for someone else. Instagram captions are great for education and sharing content. You could perhaps view your initial stage of social media platforms as a growth stage, and then reassess this for nurturing your followers and leading with content.

Hairdressers need to refresh and update the look of their feed when evolving your Instagram. We discuss the importance of professional content shoots and how to mix them up with your client pics to elevate your socials in a saturated market

Here are 9 things to consider when creating your Instagram with purpose:

  1. Why did you build your Instagram?
  2. What are you trying to attract with your Instagram?
  3. Who is your ideal client?
  4. Where is your dream client?
  5. Who is interested in your content?
  6. Are you targeting hairdressers or consumers?
  7. Is your Instagram in the initial growth stage and you are wanting to grow follower numbers and build a community?
  8. Or is your Instagram an established brand/account and you are now wanting to increase engagement and attract actual clients (not just chasing likes)?

3 Tips from Nicole on how to write captions

  1. Add more value to create shareable or saveable content
  2. Write killer captions that educate clients to help them be more knowledgeable about hair using the products you love and sell within your salon
  3.  You could view captions to be similar to consultation and explain the current colour and what you would suggest for the process + technique + pricing + homecare etc, as opposed to just writing #balayage

My (personal) fave tip from this interview that I implemented immediately

I have added Instagram Highlight icons for my smiling client selfies and begun telling my clients to please send me photos or tag me. I can feature all pics regardless of snap filters or image quality & clients love being saved in my highlight reel. Previously, I couldn’t upload many client pics because they used filters that didn’t fit my feed.
