What we'll be talking about

In today's technology age most education is available online and can include all the same perks and networking opportunities as in-person events.

In this episode, I’ll be talking about these 3 reasons to love online education:

  1. Online courses are flexible for learning with support at your own pace
  2. Online courses are not the only way to learn online, for example, podcasts are great for audible learners & online coaching are suitable for experiential and visual learners
  3.  There is some great education online for hairdressers that is free to access

Online Learning is changing the way we learn & I believe that online learning is changing our industry for the better.

Most educators and coaches now offer online and in-person events or workshops to cater to more students with flexible pathways for learning. Online learning ensures that you have the best seat in the house. Literally could be the best seat in your house without having to travel to attend trade shows or interstate or overseas hair shows. Nothing replaces being in the same room to ask questions and get up close and personal with other students, however, in today's technology age most education is available online and can include all the same perks and networking opportunities as in-person events. All without needing to leave your home or salon or studio.

Show notes for podcast episode 81

My passion and first love is education

Revealing my passion for education early, I completed my apprenticeship under renowned Vidal Sassoon NYC Colour Director, Alyson Schoer where we together explored creative and classic colour concepts, coupled with alternative training methods that lead to the extension of my apprenticeship to explore this area further. As a fourth-year apprentice, I realized the true power of education early and the importance of mentor alignment, leading me on a pathway of development including many years spent under the mentorship of Sam Villa and Chris Baran at their New York Platform Artistry and Facilitation program.

This, in addition to 13 years spent as a Global Educator with Redken, progressed my talent for learner-focused education and secured me a prestigious teaching role as International Colour Facilitator at Redken 5th Ave Exchange, New York. However, by stepping away from the security of a global brand, I now proudly facilitate independent education, taking my artistry around the globe, sharing my knowledge with international and local hairdressers alike, and partnering with salon owners to create custom and tailored education, designed to assist hairdressers in achieving their goals.

As a career freelancer, my path towards independent education has provided me with the opportunity to work alongside internationally renowned and award-winning artists and opened doors to step outside the industry to learn additional skills to aid my own development.  Infusing these skills into my programs, I empower hairdressers to see things beyond the norm of colouring, providing them with transformative tools and wealth-building practices to implement beyond the salon chair.

3 REASONS FOR LOVING ONLINE EDUCATION:

#1:  Online courses are flexible for learning with support at your own pace

    • This is what I love the most about online learning both as a student and as a teacher and coach
    • Live events are fun and highly engaging with the same feels as hair shows and industry days, but I like to also watch replays and go back in to watch technical training a few times before I totally feel comfortable to start experimenting with new concepts and techniques on the salon floor.
    • Learning online with the added support of coaching or a community group where you can ask questions is an incredible way to elevate your craft. It’s like everyone has a front row seat at an intimate workshop with the ability to zoom in close to watch what’s happening and then go off and practice and come back to watch again if needed and ask questions for accountability and support. What’s not to love?

#2: Online courses are not the only way to learn online. What I mean by this is there are usually a few platforms you can investigate if a teacher or course creator is the right fit for you.

      • For example, in my education business, I have several offers and places for connection. You might already be in one of my online communities or perhaps this is totally new information for you, so I wanted to share some behind the scenes information for you in this podcast.
      • As an online Course Creator I want people to know, like and trust me to be the best teacher for their educational goals, which is why I offer several platforms for people to explore my style & approach to colour that are free to access as a way of sampling some educational material before diving into a paid program.
      • Podcasts are one of the best resources for free to access learning, including this podcast (of course!)

#3: There is some great education online for hairdressers that is free to access

      • Check out Facebook groups & ask your brand sales reps if they offer any online training. You will be pleased to know that most brands are offering this now as a reaction to covid lockdowns and support that was needed. Our industry has fallen in love with online learning because it’s so flexible and accessible.
      • I have a free class that is a 90-minute masterclass on How to Avoid Hair Painting for Redheads. This is a webinar that I have recorded and made available for you to click and play as soon as you register. I give you 7-day access so you can replay it if you choose within that time before it disappears. I created this after I had hundreds of people registering for my last live round of webinars & wanted to be able to offer something more for you and the industry that I love. The link to register can be found below these show notes. This is a great place to sample my style of learning.
