Episode 62
Mind Your Mindset
with belinda hillman

What we'll be talking about
In this episode, we’re talking about mindset training strategy for apprentices and why our industry needs this.
Belinda Hillman is an award-winning hair and beauty salon owner and creator and founder of Belinda mindset hair and beauty motivational training cards. They are an innovation in education and motivation. Her goal is to introduce mindset to every hair and Beauty apprentice In the UK and beyond. Not everyone has a positive voice in their life and she set out on a mission to help others to let go of self-limiting beliefs and never give up on their goals.
I wrote to Belinda on Instagram in 2020 saying how fantastic I thought her idea of creating motivational training cards for hairdressers was. She replied with such a warm and heartfelt message to me saying thank you and congratulating me on creating this podcast to help hairdressers & a couple of weeks later my deck of cards arrived in the mail in sunshine yellow padded envelope all the way from the UK to Australia.
The cards include activities and challenges for Growth Mindset, Journaling, Retail Training Ideas plus affirmations and fun tasks to help apprentices learn to reach for the stars whilst feeling supported to do so.

Mindset Matters
Belinda is a very passionate Educator that dived headfirst into online training during 2020 lockdowns to help our apprentices feel supported to reach for their goals. She breaks down her process into 3 key steps that we discuss in great detail through our conversation. They are;
- Start with affirmations, for example from day one as an apprentice it's important to say out loud (and believe it) “I am a great Hairdresser”
- Journalling in a happiness diary is integral for planning your goals and exploring your feelings. You can be honest with yourself on paper. It can be private.
- Taking actions with self-reflection and team support, for example, “What are your choices today?” “What is going to take me further? What is at the top of the list and the best place to start?”
Pour yourself a lovely cup of coffee or tea and find somewhere comfortable to sit down and listen through with us about the positive feedback Belinda is receiving from Salon Owners and Apprentices after receiving their Training Cards or attending her online education events.
