Mental Health for Hairdressers, Boundaries with authenticity & self-care strategies
with Amber Rules

What we'll be talking about
Everyone experiences rough patches in their life. Things like worry, anxiety, grief, sadness, anger and pain are a normal part of being human. We know that these things are normal, and yet there’s still so much stigma about the idea of talking to someone who can help us understand them better, so we can feel better.
Research tells us that when we get support and understanding to help us through a rough patch, we tend to feel better more quickly than people who don’t. We also know that counselling and support leads to better overall health outcomes, including physical health.

What is self-care?
What is self-care, anyway? Is it buying things and lavender baths? Or something more complex? Capitalism and consumerism have taken over our thoughts on self-care and this can become confusing when trying to navigate what self-care is for you as an individual and why it’s so important. Western culture is all about the grind and how busy we are without equal focus or emphasis on the rest and recharge self-care activities needed for balancing out the grind. So yes, a lavender bath bomb is nice… and it’s even nicer if you have time to connect with friends, find activities to support your mental and emotional health, plus discover things that care for yourself in a kind and gentle way.
