How to Transform Blonde and Balayage Clients to Copper (and back again!)
~ Part Two
What I'll be talking about
Wondering what to do when your blonde clients try the copper haircolour trend & then change their mind and ask for blonde again? In this episode, we answer that question.
Wondering what to do when your blonde clients try the copper haircolour trend & then change their mind and ask for blonde again?
In this episode, I'll be talking about 3 salon-friendly techniques for clients that were blonde, went copper, and now want to go back to their previous blonde colour again.
I am spilling the tea on the podcast this week with a special 3-part series to break it down into smaller bite-size pieces to take a Blonde to Copper (and back again!!) one easy-to-digest step at a time.
These will include considerations specific to Bleach Blonde to Copper and back again, plus Balayage to Copper and back again, and natural hair with babylights transformed back to natural (or their previous colour) after trying trending Copper.
It is National Redhead Day, so it’s absolutely great timing to share my first ever 3-part mini-series in one week in the lead-up to this significant day. This (episode 116) is part 2 in the 3-part mini-series.
Tell your clients about National Redheads Days and how excited you are for trending copper tones to promote change for your clients! Check out the hashtags #loveyourredhair and #nationalredheadday on Instagram to see what events are happening around the world to celebrate redheads. Use the hashtag on your redhead posts and see what new engagement or followers you might attract.
And that’s not all, I am also hosting a brand-new online FREE MASTERCLASS this weekend and you’re invited to join me. Click here to learn more and register now.
Show notes for episode 116
In this episode, I am going to discuss with you how to convert 3 different types of blonde clients to copper (and back to blonde again, because let's face it, they probably will want to do this!) with considerations specific to each one. These will include full head bleach or high lift blonde to copper transformation, and a Balayage to Copper transformation, plus how to approach a natural client with very grown-out babylights wanting to try trending copper.
techniques to suggest for copper clients wanting to return to blonde or balayage
There are different approaches required for different blonde based to achieve trending copper haircolour. It's not a one size fits all scenario.
Let me break it down for you:
- A platinum scalp bleach client that was copper seeking to go back to blonde must be treated delicately as if you are working on platinum hair because you are, even though it appears orange now.
- You will not be able to do a Scalp Bleach and Colour Stripper on the same day because the haircolour result will be too unpredictable and the scalp is too sensitive for this to happen.
- If you scalp bleach to the copper client is ok to have a peach or strawberry blonde or light caramel copper blonde as opposed to the Level 7 Copper they want to remove, this is possible in one long session on the same day.
- We discussed in Part 1 of this podcast mini-series how Copper Balayage can be stunning! If you opted for tinted highlights and lowlights with possibly a colour painted between to tone down any super light tips, this could become quite an easy quick-fix transformation back to their former balayage because you’ll just need to lift the copper 1-2 levels and shift the orange lighter each visit with the support of colour fading between visits.
- Converting a balayage to copper and back again could work really well with tinted highlights and lowlights. Listen to the podcast for several formula ideas!
- Clients that were grown-out baby lights with mostly natural hair that converted to copper will need to have double process semi or permanent colours to return as close back to their natural as possible in the first visit.
ACHIEVE COPPER HAIR COLOUR WITHOUT RED OR ROOT GLOW
- The secret to creating a Classic Copper that clients seeking a “natural-looking” hair colour will love.
- How to avoid unwanted Red tones in Copper hair colours using the unique 5-6-7-8 levelling system that works with every single hair colour brand.
- Grey coverage formulas for copper hair colours on clients that are 25-100% grey seeking consistency and coverage without root glow.
- The Art of Copper Hair Colour strategies to boost your confidence in the salon, including when to choose a semi-permanent versus permanent, and when to add concentrates or boosters for customised formulations.
