SEASON 3 - Ep 110

What I'll be talking about

Wondering how to transform your blonde, balayage, bronde and teasy light clients into copper? And worried they will ask for blonde again and you’re not sure how to approach that? In this episode, we answer that question.

Do you want to have a conversation with your clients about copper haircolour trending without the fear they will say yes now and then change their mind and want to go back to blonde next visit?

Well, you’re in luck, because this is something I teach in my online course Hair Painting for Redheads and it’s a hot topic at the moment in our student coaching sessions. So I just wanted to spill the tea with you on the podcast this week with a special 3-part series to break it down into smaller bite-size pieces to take a Blonde to Copper transformation one step at a time.

Are you curious as to why I am publishing 3 episodes in one week?

There are 2 reasons for this. I  have been off travelling and missed a few weeks of episodes, so I wanted to create a binge-worthy mini-series for you this week to get you back on track with colourful conversations to inspire creative hair painting in your salon.

Plus, something very exciting is happening this weekend!

It is National Redhead Day, so it’s absolutely great timing to share my first ever 3-part mini-series in one week in the lead-up to this significant day.

Tell your clients about it! Check out the hashtags #loveyourredhair and #nationalredheadday on Instagram to see what events are happening around the world to celebrate redheads. Use the hashtag on your redhead posts and see what new engagement or followers you might attract.

And that’s not all, I am also hosting a brand-new online FREE MASTERCLASS this weekend and you’re invited to join me. Click here to learn more and register now.

Show notes for episode 115

In this episode, I am going to discuss with you how to convert 3 different types of blonde clients to copper with considerations specific to each one. These will include full head bleach or high lift blonde to copper transformation, and a Balayage to Copper transformation, plus how to approach a natural client with very grown-out babylights wanting to try trending copper.

What strategies are best for blonde, balayage and babylights clients trying copper?

There are different approaches required for different blonde based to achieve trending copper haircolour. It's not a one size fits all scenario.

Let me break it down for you:

  • A Full Head Bleach Blonde or Full Headlight tint to Copper will technically be the easiest to colour back to copper, but the trickiest to return back to their original colour if it is platinum.
  • The principles for going darker still apply to copper with regards to filling, which means 2 or more levels will require filling.
  • Balayage to Copper Transformations are a little different than converting a solid blonde to copper because of all the sweeping brush strokes and colour variations used to create an ombre or balayage, and all coloured zones of the hair must be considered when deciding on your multiple formulas and techniques.
  • It is important to consider your client's ability for revisits when suggesting changing a Balayage to a  solid Copper tint requiring more frequent salon visits.
  • If you have a client with mostly natural hair and very grown-out babylights, balayage or any type of foil technique you can generally treat this like virgin hair and just tone the light tips after your virgin tint.
  • Don’t be fooled by the concept you might need to pull all the little baby lights out of the hair and deposit colour with 20 vol on them if you are painting 30vol on all the other ends. It is too fiddly!
  • Listen to the podcast to learn which techniques and formulas are suggested for each of these 3 blonde clients for copper transformations.
