How to create a more inclusive and accessible salon for fat clients
with amber rules
What we'll be talking about
That is until recently, one of my incredible clients taught me all the variables to consider when seating a fat client. Am I allowed to say that?
I feel a little awkward saying the word fat and not even sure if I am allowed to say that without offending or upsetting people. I want our industry to welcome clients with all body types with professionalism and accessibility training, which is why I am talking with Amber Rules to break it down into actionable steps we can all take to improve our salon offerings for inclusivity for fat clients and hairdressers in our team and why it’s so important.
Show notes for podcast episode 98
LET’S MEET OUR GUEST – Amber Rules
Amber Rules is a Psychotherapist, and Mental Health Facilitator, and the Director & Founder of Rough Patch Affordable Counselling. She is back from Episode 93 where we had an important conversation on strategies to help your well-being working as a hairdresser.
Is your salon inclusive and accessible for fat clients?
Amber is someone who lives in a large body. A fat person that is sharing with us how she accesses service spaces. If you are a person that lives in a straight size body this topic could be uncomfortable at first, however, there are some really important ideas to share with your salon team and hair industry friends to create inclusive and accessible salon spaces for our fat clients. This podcast conversation actually started in the salon chair whilst I was colouring Amber's hair.
